Virtuoso’s 2025 Travel Trends report just hit my inbox, and the first order of business was to come here and share it with you! 

This report taps into the collective knowledge of agency members and their teams of professional travel advisors (that’s me!), across 58 countries to pinpoint what’s trending in travel. 

The 2025 Travel Trends report finds that travelers are “yearning for transformative experiences, fueled by an adventurous spirit and a desire to forge deeper connections with family, friends, and new surroundings.”

Trend #1: Ice-olated Escapes aka Coolcations

This year, colder destinations are heating up. Antarctica, specifically, has surged in popularity (I’ve already booked two Antarctica trips for 2026–these book up fast so inquire soon if it’s on your list!), alongside icy hotspots like Norway and Iceland. Climate change and a yearning for fewer crowds are driving this trend, with many travelers choosing shoulder seasons for cooler temperatures and calmer vibes.

Trend #2: Solo Sailing 

Gone are the days when travel meant sticking with a group. Solo travel is flourishing, with more women craving independence and personal growth. Have we all been watching Eat, Pray, Love or…??? 

From river cruises through Europe to expedition ships in the Arctic, solo journeys give you the freedom and flexibility to travel your own way and connect with like-minded travelers if and when you choose. 

Cruise lines are already catching on, offering single cabins, curated excursions, and social activities perfect for solo adventurers. 

Trend #3: Wellness Meets Adventure

Adventure travel is taking a softer, more balanced approach in 2025. Think exploring Costa Rica’s rainforests by day, followed by holistic spa treatments at night. Or imagine practicing yoga on a Moroccan rooftop before heading off for a camel trek through the Sahara. Sounds like the perfect blend of adventure and relaxation to me.

Trend #4: You Tell Me Travel

Rather than sticking to well-worn bucket lists, travelers are finding new inspiration in documentaries, books, binge-watches (I see you White Lotus), and recommendations from friends and family. TikTok remains a powerful influence, delivering rapid-fire clips of destinations previously overlooked. Yet nothing rivals the expertise of travel advisors, who report their clients are now reaching out to ask, “Where to next?” rather than naming a specific destination. And boy, do we love a client who trusts our recommendations that much. 

Trend #5: Palate and Place: Savor Every Moment

Food isn’t just fuel – it’s a gateway to culture, and 2025 is all about eating your way through your destinations. From wine tours in France to truffle-hunting in Croatia, culinary travel immerses you in flavors that tell the story of a place.

Luxury travelers are demanding more than just a seat at the table. They want food tours, hidden markets, and intimate dining experiences that connect them to local traditions. There’s nothing wrong with your plate being a part of your passport!
