A Father-Daughter WWII History Trip to Normandy

I just got back from one of the most meaningful adventures of my life: A WWII History Trip with my dad. Even more special? It was his very first time leaving the country.

This trip had been on his bucket list for years. We had talked about it so many times, but earlier this year, I decided it was time to stop talking and start planning. I remember calling him one afternoon and saying, “I found the flights, we’re going. It’s time to make it happen.”

Armed with his brand-new passport and a freshly minted Global Entry card, he was excited (and nervous), but still ready to make the trip.

My dad has always been a huge WWII history buff, so with the help of my incredible travel partners in Europe, we crafted a trip that brought so many of his favorite stories to life. From walking through Churchill’s War Rooms in London to learning about the Blitz and the resilience of the British people, each stop felt like stepping into history.

But nothing compared to our time in Normandy.

We had an amazing private guide who brought such heart to the experience, keeping the heavier conversations meaningful, informative, and deeply engaging. He shared stories of quiet heroes who never made it into the textbooks or onto TV screens, but whose courage left a lasting impact.

That day in Normandy we followed in the footsteps ofEasy Company from Band of Brothers and ended the day with a ride along Omaha Beach in an authentic WWII jeep. We stood in silence at the American Cemetery, taking in the rows of white crosses and stars of David, and paid our respects to the lives lost on those very shores. It was emotional, humbling, and something we’ll both remember forever.

This trip reminded me how powerful travel can be, not just for what you see, but for what it helps you feel and the memories it creates with the people you love.

If you’ve been thinking about a trip with your parents or planning something special for the whole family, don’t wait. Time isn’t promised, and these are the moments that we will hold onto forever.

At the end of our trip, over dinner my dad looked at me and said, “Where are we going next?”

Whether it’s someone’s first time abroad or a long-awaited adventure, I’d love to help make it easy, intentional, and unforgettable.

If you have someone in mind for a WWII History trip like this, I’d love to hear about it! Let’s chat more about what’s on your bucket list and how I can help turn those dreams into a reality.
