Airport lines. Shoe removal. That moment of mild panic when your boarding group is called and
your coffee is still half full. If any of that sounds familiar, then these airport travel tips are for you.
As a luxury travel advisor, I’m all about reducing friction at every stage of your journey—especially
the airport. Here are my go-to airport travel tips that will help you navigate security lines and
customs like a seasoned pro.
Starting May 7, 2025, all U.S. travelers flying domestically must present a REAL ID or another
federally approved form of identification. If your current driver’s license isn’t REAL ID-compliant,
you’ll need to apply for an upgrade—which usually requires documents like a birth certificate or
passport and can take several weeks to process.
This upgrade doesn’t speed up security, but it will prevent you from being turned away at the gate.
You can read more about accepted forms of ID on the DHS website.
If you fly more than twice a year, TSA PreCheck is a game changer. For $78 (good for five years),
you’ll access dedicated security lanes and avoid having to remove shoes, belts, laptops, or
travel-sized liquids.
You can apply online through tsa.gov and finish the enrollment with a quick in-person
appointment. Most major airports have PreCheck lanes, so it’s one of the best low-cost upgrades
available.
Frequent international travelers, take note: Global Entry is your customs shortcut when returning
to the U.S., and it includes TSA PreCheck too. At $100 for five years, it’s a valuable time-saver if
you’re flying abroad even once per year.
Enrollment involves an interview and background check, so it’s worth starting early—especially
since appointment availability can vary. Learn more and start your application at cbp.gov.
Airport programs are helpful, but small details can have just as big an impact. Here’s a quick
pre-travel checklist I share with all my clients:

Whether it’s Europe this fall or a quick weekend escape, thoughtful prep can make a world of
difference. My job is to remove the guesswork—so you can focus on what matters: where you’re
going, and how you want to feel when you get there.
