London Travel Inspiration: A Few Favorite Moments from My Recent Visit

London travel inspiration

London wasn’t originally on my calendar last month.

My husband had a last-minute work trip come up, and instead of overthinking it, I decided to tag along when I was invited.

A few days in the city turned out to be the perfect opportunity to mix a little work with a little fun, reconnect with partners I love working with, and experience some of the best that London has to offer.

One of the sweetest surprises of the trip was getting to see my former roommate from my college study abroad program, who now lives in London. Catching up with her made the week feel even more special.

I didn’t try to see everything this time. Instead, I leaned into a handful of experiences that felt very London and enjoyed them fully.

Here are a few favorite moments from the trip.

Afternoon Tea at Fortnum & Mason

One of my first stops was afternoon tea at Fortnum & Mason in the Diamond Jubilee Tea Salon.

The experience strikes a lovely balance between elegant and welcoming. It never feels intimidating, which is part of its charm.

What stood out most was how well they handle dietary needs. Gluten-free and allergy-friendly options were thoughtfully prepared with the same care and presentation as the traditional service.

It’s the kind of experience that instantly puts you in a London state of mind and one I often recommend to clients visiting the city for the first time.

A Fashion Moment at the Victoria & Albert Museum

Between meetings and wandering through the city, I carved out time to visit the Victoria and Albert Museum to see the Marie Antoinette: Style exhibition.

The exhibit explores just how influential Marie Antoinette was in shaping fashion during her time and how her style continues to inspire designers centuries later.

From historical garments to modern interpretations, it was fascinating to see the evolution of her influence.

If you love fashion, design, or history, exhibitions like this are one of the reasons London remains such an exciting cultural destination.

An Evening at SIX The Musical

I was also able to see SIX The Musical, and it was such a fun experience.

Fast, energetic, and full of personality, the show reimagines the wives of Henry VIII as modern pop icons.

It’s about 80 minutes long, making it a great option if you want a memorable theater experience without committing your entire evening.

London’s theater scene is one of the best in the world, and there’s always something new worth seeing.

Behind the Scenes at the Changing of the Guard

One of the most meaningful experiences during the trip was going behind the scenes at the Changing of the Guard.

Most visitors watch the ceremony from outside the gates of Buckingham Palace, which is certainly impressive on its own. But seeing the process from the inside offers a completely different perspective.

You gain a deeper understanding of the precision, tradition, and discipline that goes into every part of the ceremony.

The partner I work with in London is currently the only provider offering this behind-the-scenes access, which makes it an incredibly special experience for travelers who want something unique.

After the ceremony, we wrapped up the experience with a visit to the Guards Museum, where I even had the chance to try on an authentic uniform and bearskin hat — one of those “I can’t believe I’m doing this” travel moments.

Lunch at Corinthia London

Before heading home, I spent some time visiting Corinthia London, where I had lunch with their Senior Sales Manager.

What stood out most about the property is the level of thoughtful hospitality throughout the hotel.

From the moment you arrive, the team genuinely focuses on understanding what kind of stay each guest wants and tailoring the experience accordingly.

During my walkthrough, I noticed small details everywhere. A pianist in the lobby adjusting his music to match the atmosphere of the room. Fresh floral arrangements being placed throughout the property. Staff anticipating guest needs before they even ask.

The rooms are spacious, the location is excellent — just across the river from the London Eye and close to many major sights — and the spa is one of the most impressive in the city.

It’s a hotel that manages to feel both refined and welcoming, which is exactly what many travelers are looking for in London.

Why London Is Always Worth Returning To

One of the things I love most about London is that it never feels like a one-time destination.

There’s always a new exhibition, a new show, a new restaurant, or a hidden corner of the city waiting to be discovered.

Even a short visit can feel full and memorable when the experiences are chosen thoughtfully.

You don’t have to see everything. In fact, some of the best London trips come from slowing down and enjoying a handful of well-chosen moments.
