We’re almost to the end of my Summer in the USA series, and I’ve loved sharing some of my favorite destinations closer to home.
California is full of destinations that get all the attention.
Napa. Palm Springs. Big Sur. Lake Tahoe. And somehow, San Diego still manages to fly under the radar. Which is wild to me.

It has nearly perfect weather year-round, incredible restaurants, beautiful beaches, luxury resorts, world-class attractions, and a laid-back energy that’s hard to find anywhere else. It’s just as easy to spend the day exploring Balboa Park and Little Italy as it is to grab a fish taco, watch the surfers, and call it a perfect afternoon.
I also love how flexible San Diego is. It’s a great destination for couples looking for a long weekend, families wanting a mix of beach time and activities, or anyone who simply wants to slow down.
If I were planning your trip, I’d make time for a few experiences beyond the beaches. A guided walk through Balboa Park is a wonderful way to learn about the city’s history and architecture, a sunset sail on San Diego Bay is always a favorite, and kayaking through the La Jolla sea caves offers an entirely different perspective of the coastline.
San Diego may not be the first California destination people think of, but I think that’s part of its charm.
If you’re looking for a getaway that blends beautiful beaches, luxury hotels, and plenty to explore, I’d love to help you plan it.
